Seiko introduced the Sharp Edged family, whose members were distinguished by their intriguing textured dials, into the Presage collection in 2020, adding GMT models to the original group of time-and-date watches a year later. At just over 42mm in diameter and just shy of 50mm lug to lug, the Presage Sharp Edged GMT sits comfortably on the wrist thanks to sloping lugs; the case’s finish combines polishing and brushing at a level rarely found at this price point. The dial itself is, of course, the star of the show, with its geometric “Asanoha” textured pattern, an ancient Japanese design motif inspired by hemp leaves. The dial colors also take inspiration from Japan’s natural world, like the “Aitetsu” model pictured, whose tone evokes indigo-colored iron ore. While the hardlex crystal isn’t premium it offers helps protect the watch’s mechanisms. Canvas Strap Another thing I like about this is that the watch appears to be very flat. The only things that have depth are the minute and hour hands. Hence, I find the dial and case pretty much fitting for users who have small hands and arms.Overall I highly recommend the Seiko SNK809, and it deserves it. Like all automatics, the SNK809 requires regular wear for it to keep going, and has a power reserve of about 40 hours. But even with constant wear, you’ll have to reset the time every couple of days to account for the deviation. If you want something that pops a little bit more than the monochromatic SKX007, you might want to look at the SKX009, which is essentially the exact same watch in a different colorway. Although it is a water resistant type, it does not have the capacity to fully support your water activities like diving and swimming.The SNK809 does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and nothing more: It’s accessible, affordable, and offers a more than solid entry point into the world of mechanical watches. This mineral crystal is used in the dial window of the Seiko-SNK809. This is the reason why its window is very durable since it is impact resistant. Although other watches that feature a Sapphire Crystal in its window is highly scratch-resistant, it is not as impact-resistant as the material used in this design. The watch is also a good option if you’re looking for a men’s watch with good aesthetics, functionality, and value for an entry-level price point.
