This is U with Hisense’s latest Smart TV operating system, VIDAA U 4.0. Personalized, intuitive and smart, access all your favorite entertainment and built-in apps from Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube and Freeview Play. Use the remote with shortcut buttons for all these services that get those should see frame sets faster. Freeview Play allows you to enjoy the biggest shows, live and on demand, all together in one place and all for free. With over 70 TV channels, 15 HD channels and seven players on demand, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5, this is a lot of something for nothing. Whether looking at the dim bulbs of a pub, car headlights gleaming after dark, or the daylight cascading through an office window, this Hisense set was fully able to focus up to 700 nits peak brightness where it mattered, without notable blooming in surrounding pixels. 700 nits isn’t incredibly high, of course, compared to the 1,000-2,000 nits of some new Samsung TVs, but the U7QF knows what to do with what it’s given. The first is brand. Looking at the brand of the product is often a really good indicator for judging product quality. For example you’d expect a much higher quality product from a brand known for providing excellent quality than you would from an unknown or even a budget brand. However, an update appears to have ironed this out. It’s not perfect, but motion is smoother. Judder is still apparent, but less egregious. Smooth and Standard Ultra Smooth Motion settings serve up the subtlest performance, though the Film works well for movies.

There are several settings and processor modes that you can use to try to find a balance that works but, ultimately, none of them fully solve the underlying problem. It’s a shame because there are some good things about this TV’s picture performance. The next step was to try and narrow down our search even more. So this step combines the two and looks specifically at the price you’d expect to pay for Hisense branded products in the Televisions category.

For simple voice control, the VIDAA U Smart TV interface also supports Alexa. Search for TV content or use any Alexa ability, simply with voice control. Unfortunately, there’s also a loss in terms of colour depth and accuracy. The crash scene on Xandar at the end of the film is a good place to spot this. The three way close-ups between the blue-faced Yondu, green-skinned Gamora and Peter Quill’s human complexion are off the mark. The balance between them is even but each feels slightly off the hue that they should be.Considering it's one of Hisense’s top-end TVs, there's no getting around the fact that the 55U7QFTUK is a disappointment. If the brand you buy is important to you, our best advice is to spend some time writing up your own list of ideal brands. That way when you come to the point where you’re comparing product options you can filter to only show the products from brands in your list.
