About this deal

This lesson, which focuses on summarizing, assumes that students are already familiar with basic Story Elements, including character, plot, and setting. Summarizing also requires students to be familiar with sequencing events and determining importance. If students are unfamiliar with these concepts, you will need to take some time introducing them. Materials An imaginative story of amazing food weather whose premise was also the basis of the Sony Pictures 2009 hit movie, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs has sold more than 1.9 million copies and is a favorite of grown-ups and children everywhere.

Tell students that when they are summarizing a story to somebody, they usually do not have the book available to look through as they are talking. Explain that you want them to write and draw their own summary of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs so that they can summarize the story to you and to their family members at home.

Did we miss something on diversity?

Jessica has a friend only she can see: Jessica. "There is no Jessica," said Ruthie's parents. But of course there was. At this point, try not to do any modeling as you have done in the previous two lessons. Instead, if groups need help, ask questions such as, "Who is in the story so far?" and "What do I know about the setting?" Make sure that the groups who have the "Character" section are recording information. Continue reading aloud and be sure to monitor students' discussions as they determine what information to include. You may have to clue groups who have the main event sections that the first main event has happened, and so on. For students who are struggling writers, tell them that they can draw whatever they want that reminds them of their section. For example, students who have the second main event section could just draw a big pancake covering a school.

Vlessing, Etan (5 October 2015). "MIPCOM: Sony's 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' TV Show Sells to Turner Broadcasting". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved 30 November 2016. The show clarifies that when Flint and Sam met in their adulthood in the first film, it was not their first meeting. They first met and became friends in high school. In the first episode, Flint says that if Sam ever has to move away from Swallow Falls, he will invent a memory eraser, as she had moved around frequently and did not want the memory of another lost friendship to sadden her. Grandpa is the main character. throughout the book he tells his grandkids stories and makes them pancakes. He is kind, gentle, and a very good storyteller. Life was happy in the town of Chewandswallow; but, suddenly, the weather took a turn for the worse. The weather began to create problems for the town with events such as a flood of spaghetti creating a tangle in a traffic intersection, Gorgonzola cheese raining down for a whole day, and a pea soup fog.Mother nature cooks up a storm, literally, in this madcap story with plenty of silliness to go around. The story is fun and the illustrations are special. To sum it up: incredibly creative, imaginative, funny, really great illustrations, and the illustrator is even a vegetarian. So, it was my kind of book after all.
