Another brother? Thought I killed all of you. I wondered who was behind all of this; trying to kill me with a lesser hitman." ― Agent 47, upon discovering the identity of the counter-assassin hired to kill him

Winners of the 2023 CWA Dagger Awards Announced - Take a look

Sixteen people have done this job before me. I am Seventeen. The most feared assassin in the world. But to be the best, you must beat the best. My next target is Sixteen, just as one day Eighteen will hunt me down. It’s a dog-eat-dog world and it gets lonely at the top. Nobody gets to stay for long. But while we're here, all that matters is that we win. S.Coups holds the official position of leader in the group. S.Coups and and Vernon are the main rappers of the group. DK and Seungkwan are the main vocalists. Hoshi and Dino are the main dancers. Behind the events you know are the killers you don’t. When diplomacy fails, we're the ones who gear up. Officially we don’t exist, but every government in the world uses our services. We’ve been saving the world, and your ass, for one hundred years. Since the 2023 Crime Writers' Association (CWA) Dagger Shortlist was revealed in May we've been eager to learn who will be the winners of this year's awards. We had National Crime Reading Month to enjoy while we waited throughout June and now the time has come and the winners of the oldest awards in the genre were announced on the 6th July at a Gala Dinner at the Leonardo City Hotel in London. The Top 25 Christmas Cookbooks for 2023: A Smorgasbord of Inspiration for a Happy Foodie This Christmas

Keeps readers on the edge of their seats through a roller-coaster ride of high-octane action that builds to an explosive finale’ SUNDAY EXPRESS This is a fresh adrenaline-charged, and snarkily funny spy thriller with an explosive climax * The Peterborough Telegraph * If you want to grab a readers attention authors could do worse than look at how John Brownlow does it. Yanked in by a chain! I love the tone, there's a wry, dry humorous tone in the beginning which I really appreciate although things alter later on when things go Pete Tong and 17 is operating in, lets say, an improvised manner. Years later, he was found by Sergei Zavorotko and the Mystery Man, when they were searching the facility sometime after Ort-Meyer's death.Agent 17 speaks no lines, but given how Sergei mistakes 47's voice for 17's, it is inferable he would've been voiced by David Bateson. The story is brilliantly crafted and narrated with dry humour that had me laughing out loud one minute and my heart in my throat the next. It’s the first time that I can say this about a thriller! The two have a few run-ins, neither getting the upper hand, until they have a frank discussion and realise perhaps they are both being played and the stakes are potentially world changing. Who is gaming who? Who can they trust? Will either of them actually live long enough to find out?

But the sniper isn't the hardened killer he was expecting. It's Mireille - a mysterious, silent child, abandoned in the woods with instructions to pull the trigger. The pace never falters a single inch in this high octane, breathless thriller. Of course, a spy thriller demands action and Seventeen certainly doesn't disappoint. There's a brief but pivotal scene in Berlin's Tiergarten which is surely a playful homage to classic Cold War espionage fiction. However, he makes mistakes in Berlin and his shortcomings raise alarm bells with his boss, known only as Handler. What follows is a personal confrontation as he hunts down Sixteen, knowing that more than one person is waiting for a moment of weakness that will allow them to become Eighteen. Without giving anything away. I enjoyed the introduction of other characters and the wry interplay between them. Action thriller fans who want an intense thrill-ride will be more than satisfied but the witty dialogue and emotional scenes mean this isn't mindlessly frantic and instead the storyline is intriguingly suspenseful. Meanwhile, the personal toll of a job that requires a person to become a shadow is examined too and there's a vulnerability to 'Jones' which provides a refreshing counterpoint to his undoubted proficiency and masterful survival skills.
