Toniebox is cheaper than Yoto Player, but more expensive than the Yoto Mini (which is a fabulous audio player for at home and travel with kids). Our co-testers have been enjoying their Toniebox for nearly a year; it’s a genius item for any kid’s bedroom. The little ones are especially enamored of the gorgeous, hand-painted figurines which play the songs and stories. With little ears that work as knobs and an impressive selection of stories and songs, the Toniebox promises hours of independent fun for children aged three to seven. Just don't lose the Tonies, or you'll be in trouble. They kids also use the smart speak to ask Alexa questions. Admittedly, sometimes they are silly questions but sometimes they are educational questions or they’ll ask what the weather will be like or what time it is. They love doing this, especially Joseph as he can’t tell the time but the Alexa gives him some independence. The Toniebox is about as simple as it gets to operate, once you’ve gone through the initial setup process. Don’t lose the toy, though: If you misplace a content Tonie, the story disappears with it. Tonies run from 16 to 50 minutes apiece, and if you want to get more value for money, choose musical content, which tends to run between 40 and 50 minutes. Disney albums average about 22 minutes.
Olive’s Toniebox is used everyday in our household, either as part of her bedtime routine or (increasingly) during the day when Olive wants to listen to music or a story. Furthermore, despite buying the box for Olive when she was only one, I still feel like we’ve had plenty of use from it, and this will only continue as she grows older and her attention span expands.
Despite this if your kids love those classic Donaldson favourites then I would definitely get them as they also include some music and are lovely for fans of the books. Content can’t be paused and skipping a section by tapping the box doesn’t always work. You have to tap in the exact right spot and I imagine if you had a creative Tonie with 30 songs on it, this could be annoying! One of the coolest things about the Toniebox is that it also allows you to create your own content. The Toniebox is an audiobox that plays the stories related to the beautifully painted figurines that sit on top of the box.

The Yoto: biggest downside are the size of the cards, as they can be easily lost if a child isn't careful. However - to balance this out, Yoto allows you to link owned content to a Make Your Own card. So even if a card is lost, you haven't lost the content. You can even select content to play on a box from the app without having a physical card in the box at all. This is a really nice touch and means that when my husband is away, I can play his guitar lullaby to Olive. Alternatively, if I’m travelling, I can record a bedtime story on the Creative Tonie for Olive to listen to. As I mentioned in the opening of my Toniebox review, we bought Olive the box for her first birthday. Although I was aware that she wouldn’t be interacting with it like a 3-8 year old might, I still saw it as a lovely gift she could grow into.
