About this deal

Well in this case the internet was right haha and I did fall in love with them but since I have no idea how to macramé and I’d have to wait more than a week for macramé rope to arrive, I thought I’d try to make a crochet version 🙂 and I love how they turned out! Yarn

This crochet coaster pattern is so easy to customise and great for beginners! Simply extend the spiral to make the coaster as large or as small as you want. You could crochet boho place mats, hot pads, table mats, use it as a flower vase base mat – the options are endless! I might have gone a little crazy and made a huge range of these in a range of different sizes. The spiral is worked in continuous rounds with a stitch marker indicating the 1st st of the round. At the end of a round, do NOT slip stitch into the 1st st to join.

Boho Fringe Coasters Crochet Pattern

All you have to do for this boho crochet coaster project is cut a 4-inch piece of yarn and fold it in half. Insert your hook and yarn into the stitch. Pull through the stitch, remove your hook, and pull the loose ends through the loop. Add a little charm to your coffee table with this beginner-friendly free crochet pattern. Made in the round using only one stitch. Round 4: *1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc in the next sts. Repeat from * till the last two stitches. (46 sts)

The coasters begin by crocheting a 6 single crochets into 1 chain. Placing all of the single crochets in the same stitch will make them ‘fan out’ and form a circle shape. We’ll then crochet in rounds, to form a spiral and increase the stitches until we reach the desired diameter. One great thing about this crochet coaster pattern is that you don’t need a lot of yarn. You only need about 25 yards of yarn to make one crochet coaster. It’s the perfect scrap yarn project! For this coaster pattern, I chose to work with We Crochet Dishieyarn in the color linen. It’s a worsted weight, number 4 cotton yarn.I love working with this cotton yarn because it’s really soft and it doesn’t split like some other cotton yarns. ROUND 6: *SC 4, 2SC; rep from * around until 2 sts left <33 sts in round>, sl st 2, remove SM, sl st 3. It’s the perfect beginner project or a fun mindless crochet make for advanced crocheters. One coaster takes about 25 minutes to make and all you need is some yarn, a hook, a darning needle, and a pair of scissors. The perfect scrap yarn project! To finish the spiral, in the final round, stop 2 sts before the SM. Sl st into the next 5 sts and fasten off. Every time you crochet into the 1st st, remove the SM and replace the SM in the 1st st of the round. Once we’ve crocheted the spiral we’ll level it off by crocheting a few slip stitches at the end to create a smooth edge. Fasten off and leave the tail – there’s absolutely no need to weave in the ends as we’ll use it for the fringe!

For a bit of fun I tried to make this pattern with a different weight yarn and I think they look exactly the same (pictured above). The natural coloured coasters are crocheted with We Crochet’s Simply Organic Cotton Sport yarn. This 100% cotton yarn is soooo soft and plush so they’re not as stiff as the Dishie yarn coasters but you can barely tell the difference. Gauge isn’t super important for this project but make sure that your tension is even. This will help to create a smooth circle shape (instead of a hexagon) and make the circle lay flat. dc – double crochet:Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull through, yarn over and pull through first two loops on hook, yarn over and pull through last two loops on hook. Notes: Add a little charm to your coffee table with this simple boho-inspired crochet coaster pattern. This round crochet coaster pattern with fringe is made in the spiral using only double crochet. Elevate your crochet DIY home décor with these easy boho coasters! Crocheted using 2 strands of cotton yarn held together, you can whip up these coasters in no time! The unravelled fringe adds a fun boho feel that perfectly complements a warm mug of tea or a fruity, summery drink!

Design Inspiration

Update: So many of you asked for detailed instructions for a medium sized crochet vase mat and a large dinner plate placemat so I’ve created another written pattern with the exact stitch counts, yarn estimates and measurements for 3 different sizes! You could probably use any combination of cotton yarn from sport to DK to aran to bulky but I’d just recommend that you hold at least 2 strands of yarn and adjust how many rounds your crochet to match the measurements of the coaster. This is the key to achieving the sturdy, macramé look or else the coaster will be a bit floppy and more like a doily. Round 3: 1 dc in the next stitch (stitch where stitch marker is placed), 2 dc in the next sts. *1 dc in the next stitch, 2 dc in the next sts. Repeat from * till the end of the round. Do not slip stitch. (36 sts) Learn how to make easy boho-inspired crochet coasters with this free crochet pattern and step-by-step photo tutorial.
