About this deal

I was alternating between feeling sorry for Beth, and wondering why she didn't just tell Josh the secret. This was a super clean read, but I became annoyed with the “secrets” Beth was supposed to keep for her mother. Just when she thought she’d rid him from her life, James shows up claiming that she’s in danger and must come with him. Even though Beth is no longer the lanky girl next door, Josh isn’t looking for a relationship anyway.

I didn’t want this one to end but am excited to see how easily and quickly Jonathan’s story will continue from this one. The “BIG SECRET” and source of much of the tension in the story was weak and could have been handled in ways to make the heroine less annoying. There is also a secondary romance in the background concerning Abigail which seems to come out of nowhere and has no clear direction besides romance. Neither of them were interested in any more romantic interests but the draw between them was hard to resist. But, when his mom announced that she couldn't watch Jordan like they had planned, Joshua turned to Beth, his childhood friend who lived across the street. You Can’t Date the Coach’s Daughter” by Anne-Meyer Marie asserts that high school has two types of people; the ones you are allowed to date and ones you are not. I enjoyed the easy flow between the two when they could get out of their own heads and enjoy themselves without second guessing themselves and each other.

Everything seems to be working out, until their relationship deepens, and their arrangement isn’t enough anymore. He is an overprotective father and very effective hot guy deterrent who could make a killing, bottling and selling his skills. I've had this book sitting waiting for me for several weeks, I kept looking at it knowing I wanted to read it and just trying to find the time amidst the million other things that life is throwing at me right now (good things, just busy). One piece of the writing that had a lack of creativity to the point that I decided to two-star the review instead of giving it three-stars is that the author had 9 different characters or locations with names that all started with the letter J, including a character named Jordan and a town named Jordan. When she discovers that her mother has been keeping her cancer a secret, Beth can't help but make her stop a permanent stay. She also made it seem like there was going to be this huge connection between Shelby and Belle, when she literally only babysat her like once, yet in the middle of the book she's saying she loves her more than anything and will do anything for her after knowing her for mere days. Just as she is getting her five-year-old into her car, the wind picks up and her car door scratches the paint of the Jaguar next to her. When she mentioned that he used to hold her in the closet to protect her from the mom’s drunken rage and he mentioned he’s always been in love with her I got major grooming vibes.

She loves to take her favorite moments in the books and movies she loves and tries to figure out a way to make them new and fresh. You don't know what's happening to Abigail and what's happening to the main character and the ex-stepbrother. As a reader it is really hard to distinguish and keep characters straight when all of their names are so similar. She also gets a lot from “The Writing Gals” group, where they share insights on what works and what does not.The latter came crashing down when Principal Connell asked her to help lead Cade turn his life around. The Inn on Harmony Island by Anne-Marie Meyer is the first book in the Sweet Tea and a Southern Gentleman series. So instead of feeling like a fully fledged backstory, it seems like a bunch of things were made up to make her interesting.
