About this deal

Check out the Rewards icon in the bottom left of the screen to see the points you have earned with Aria. Since first being produced in 1990, it has become a design icon, with its teardrop shaped body and slim curving legs. Open Access data and public domain images are available for unrestricted commercial and noncommercial use without permission or fee. Inventor, creator, architect, designer, artistic director, Philippe Starck is certainly all of the above, but more than anything else he is an honest man directly descended from the Renaissance artists.

The iconic Alessi Philipps Starck Juicer - also known as the 'Juicy Salif' has to be one of the most recognisable items from the Alessi range.Classic/Fantastic: Selections from the Modern Design Collection," December 21, 2007–April 5, 2009, no catalogue. The sculptural squeezer's shape is based on that of a squid with a streamlined body and three legs, and it has become a design icon.

A citrus squeezer as revolutionary as it is surprisingly functional designed in simplistic form by Philippe Starck on a pizzeria napkin during a seaside holiday in Italy. Starck has publicly stated that his citrus reamer was "not meant to squeeze lemons" but "to start conversations". It is the most controversial squeezer of the century I must say, but one of the most amusing projects I have done in my career. A design classic by Philippe Starck straight from the 90s - the landed spaceship; more a sculpture than a lemon juicer.

The squeezer impresses with its futuristic look, which is reminiscent of both a rocket and the filigree shape of a spider - the actual function takes a back seat. His precocious awareness of ecological implications, his enthusiasm for imagining new lifestyles, his determination to change the world, his love of ideas, his concern with defending the intelligence of usefulness – and the usefulness of intelligence – has taken him from iconic creation to iconic creation. One of the hallmarks of Alessi's design philosophy is its attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials. Alberto Alessi was surprised and intrigued when he received the design for this lemon juicer from Philippe Starck.

An article in the Financial Times about bad design included the Juicy Salif among other examples, and proposed that the original "chamber of horrors" at the Victoria and Albert Museum be revived, to showcase modern examples. One of the most iconic designs of our time, the transparent Louis Ghost chair, was one of the results of the cooperation with Kartell. For instance, their "Juicy Salif" citrus squeezer, designed by Philippe Starck, resembles a spaceship rather than a traditional kitchen tool.
