I really enjoyed the first 40% or so of the book, but after that, the middle part dragged on a little. I also think the next books in the series will be much much better now that the scene and introductions have been done. Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories…. As of this review, I haven’t yet finished the full book (I’m just about at the 50% mark) and I’m thinking about not finishing.

Also, did I mention how undeniably sexy he is 👀❤️‍🔥 Calista, surely is something more than a simple intuitive spy. I just … I just couldn’t keep my mouth shut when I saw or felt something and was foolishly compelled to speak up. I lowkey hope this is in the same vein as the Blood And Ash books and by that I mean in a similar style of story and characters. It was the same in all the places Grady and I had lived in before the Midlands’ city of Archwood, which had caused me to be accused of being a conjurer and led to us fleeing in the middle of the night more times than I cared to remember to avoid the hangman’s noose. This was probably JLA's most sexiest book to date (compared to the other series I've read) and it was so well done.

Being the sucker that I am I could have forgiven alot, even those god damn ellipses had there at least been an inkling of tension and chemistry, but alas, for me that was not the case.

Rather than loading information onto the reader at the start, instead readers learn through conversation throughout the story. However, Lis’s limited world is very sex positive, with the occasional misogynistic comment from secondary characters. Instead, they provided food only once a year, when much of the food went to waste while everyone was engaging in those certain activities.

I don’t even have the energy to go into the specifics of this book, because that would involve going through the book again, and good lord, I have already punished myself enough. Lis has some special abilities that make her extremely useful to have around and she’s made a good life for herself and Grady.And while Thorne and Lis were worlds apart, it always felt like there was something pulling them together.
