Dance of Thieves was brilliant, addictive and engaging. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. A LOT MORE POLITICAL intrigue and scheming happened in this book. It definitely kept me interested to keep reading and see how these characters would get out of all the impossible situations they were thrown in to This books character development and world building was amazing. Mary E. Pearson created such a rich world and just put the world building in there effortlessly. Usually in fantasy series I have a hard time getting into the book because there’s always world building at the beginning but this book just slipped it in there and I didn’t even notice. Mary E. Pearsons writing is flawless in my opinion. Dance of Thieves was full to the brim with new character dynamics, action, family, drama, betrayal, absolutely swoon (and I mean SWOON) worthy romance and another strong female character who can take care of herself. It was so addictive I wanted to devour it all in one sitting. It was paced nicely and flowed extremely well. The plot was sensational and completely engaging. It had both expected and unexpected twists and I loved it all.

Also, I think this Montegue guy was a great villain. He's a disgusting pig-headed person, but a good villain. When I began folding my tent, Griz came and stood over my shoulder and watched. I was the only one who used a tent. It was small. It didn’t take up much room. He had balked the first time he had seen me use one on a mission to a southern province. We don’t use tents, he’d said with utter distaste. I remembered the shame I felt. In the weeks that followed, I turned that humiliation to determination. Weakness made you a target, and I had promised myself, long ago, I would never be a target again. I buried my shame deep beneath carefully crafted armor. Insults couldn’t penetrate it. This book is ultimately about family, the ones you are born into and the ones you make for yourself. I love the fierce loyalty and honor for tradition of The Ballenger Clan. Their love for each other is absolute and fierce. Their commitment to each other and their histories and the decisions they felt they were forced to make offer such a good moral debate. Also, I remembered nothing that happened in the first book. It took me a while to remember who certain characters were, what certain things were, where certain places were. Like all of Jase's siblings, it took me a while to remember who they were, and I feel ashamed. I now love Paxton <3 As weird as it may seem, I DO ship him and Priya, XD. I found it quite hilarious how he stutters when around her. Usually he has pLeNtY to say. Hmphh. His scowl turned to a reluctant grin, and he replaced the dagger in its empty sheath. His bushy brows lifted, and he shook his head in approval. “Stay downwind, Ten.” I also stayed up past midnight to finish this book, something I've never done before, and I'm glad this book was the book, despite the fact that I was very SAD when this book was over. Jase's family was great. Kazi's friends were great. In most YA books, the girl MC don't have girl friends. But she does. AND THAT END, I CAN'T EVEN, ESPECIALLY IN THE TEMPLE, I ALMOST CRIED OUT OF HAPPINESS (the second time this has happened!) What Jase said was just YES. INCREDIBLE. AMAZING.

Her connection with Jase was honestly to die for! Even though they were apart for most of the book, you could still feel their love, chemistry and need to be together. This made me therefore enjoy the book even more! Compared to “The Beauty of Darkness” (which is the last book of the prequel series) where the two main characters were also apart most of the book, I really disliked that aspect.. However, Kazi and Jase just have this amazing relationship that somehow made it work and made me pine after them but in a good way (if that makes sense lol). p.352 • "Maybe sometimes life and fantasies and family did all go completely wrong. But I had loved and been loved deeply, and completely, not once, but twice in my life. I would not trade that for all the riches that Montegue had to offer." Unsure whether the other is alive or dead, Kazi and Jase must keep their wits among their greatest enemies and unlikeliest allies. And all the while, Death watches and waits. Naturally, you can pretty much guess that these two who hate each other are going to end up falling for one another. They are chained together after all. Oddly enough, this journey of theirs is only the beginning of the story. Much more will happen to them afterwards and it will be nearly impossible to guess the future outcomes. Kazi has her mission. Jase has his kingdom to protect. They are at odds with each other and yet, neither one can forget the events they went through while chained together.Wren Ballenger – Jase’s sister and a skilled fighter, who is fiercely protective of her family and their secrets. I mean... Jase does "hide" some things from Kazi, BUT since she never explains why she is in his Kingdom, never expresses interest in certain topics... can you really blame the guy for not telling Kazi absolutely every single detail of how he governs his Kingdom? So, why does Jase "hide" things from Kazi? MAYBE IT'S CUZ KAZI NEVER ASKS? MAYBE? JUST MAYBE A LITTLE BIT? When the patriarch of the Ballenger empire dies, his son, Jase, becomes its new leader. Even nearby kingdoms bow to the strength of this outlaw family, who have always governed by their own rules. But a new era looms on the horizon, set in motion by a young queen, which makes her the target of the dynasty's resentment and anger. I can’t even begin to explain how much I’ve missed this world and our old characters. I think it might be time for a reread soon!

The romance between Kazi and Jase was so pure, touching, and beautiful. The way they are written is brilliant, two of the best main characters I’ve ever seen. I haven't loved a fantasy romance in a while! Dance of Thieves definitely gives me Gondor (LoTR) vibes throughout. There are fierce families and a tight-knit kingdom of people surviving in a world of fantasy creatures - but also somewhat medieval vibes? This whole book was just incredibly well done. Love and sacrifice – The story explores the theme of love and sacrifice through the relationship between the two main characters, Kazi and Jase. They both have to make sacrifices and difficult choices for the sake of their love for each other. jase and kazi, i love my precious lil angels sm!! i loved their first encounter, she fr pinned him to a wall and held a knife to his throat, so hot of her fr. 🤭

The writing was beautiful, but I expected nothing else from Pearson after she totally blew me away with her Remnant Chronicles series. Who will write our story, Jase?' 'We will, Kazi. You and I will write our own story.' And side by side, every day, that is what we do.” And 4 stars for the thieves that stole my attention and a plot that had my head spinning as I was immersed in a book of political intrigue, a battle between kingdoms, and with some cunning, unpredictable and devious characters that brought song, music, and rhythm to this dark fairy tale story – the Dance of Thieves. The words lingered in the air, each one a shimmering spirit, cold whispers of caution, but I wasn’t afraid.

Wonderfully deceptive, creatively written and perfectly layered that had my head twirling as many of the steps / subplots threw me off balance. Another great shimmy with Fantasy and a story for (mostly) everyone. And every time she doesn't like something, she starts screaming, makes assumptions, and accuses the Ballenger family of all crimes against humanity, never giving anyone a chance to justify themselves because screw these guys. choose your words carefully, even the words you think, because they become seeds, and seeds become history.” He rubbed his bristled chin. “There’s a lot of open territory between here and Hell’s Mouth. Empty, flat territory.”

Honestly, my only true gripe with this book was some of the world-building and its info-dumpy nature. I understand because the political system and the mapping out of the world is extremely important to the overall story of the novel, and a lot of this cannot be done unless you have (1) info-dumps or (2) maps. Since I had an ARC of the book, I did not have access to the maps so I sometimes found myself confused. I feel if the information was complemented with a visual element, it would have been a lot easier. But as it was, parts of my reading experience were confusing. Jase, I mena who does'nt love the prince. The princes are the most lovable characters. Rafe, Nikolai, Cal, Mavey. Im adding him to my list. He's a morally grey character and I love him. He fiercely loves his family and Kazi. She is an international and NYT bestselling and award-winning author the Remnant Chronicles trilogy, the Dance of Thieves duology, The Jenna Fox Chronicles trilogy, and several other books for young adults. How Many Books are in the Dance of Thieves Series?
