The champagne has a nice balance of acidity and sweetness, making it a wonderful choice for any occasion. The house's rich history includes the friendship link between Napolean Bonaparte and the grandson of the founder, dating from their time at military academy Napoléon was a frequent visitor to Épernay, and the "Imperial" in the name of this Champagne refers to him. We’re your guide, your host, here for novice and connoisseur alike, to share our passion and expertise on a journey from the essentials to the exceptional. The dramatic weather conditions of 2015 resulted in an excellent harvest of red-skinned grapes, with pinot noir, in particular, showing exceptional maturity. I vaguely get the suggested aroma of almond paste giving way to elderflower which is again subtly evoked in the taste which settles on the delicate side of bitterness. This exceptional cuvée benefits from an ageing period of 6 years in the cellars as well as a minimum ageing period of 6 months after disgorgement. This Moët is a good champagne obviously but I’m not sure most would choose it in a blind taste test. The 76th vintage in the history of the House, it is an initiation into Moët Chandon s journey of light.

The champagne tastes as great as you would expect for a Moët champagne, it is light and fruity while still being dry and rich. Plummeting temperatures in August followed with precious downpours relieving the parched soil and allowing a yield of exceptional red-skinned grapes. Although being extra brut the fruity hints of white peach and watermelon add a very light and delicate sweetness making it not overly bitter. The champagne arrived in a large packaging box and was carefully wrapped and protected inside to avoid any damage from occurring. So the big thing with this is the giftability, it comes in a very high quality gift box that looks gorgeous, the bottle on the inside has the classic Moët look with a traditional classy design but with a modern bit of flare with the 2015 year in big bold lettering on the label.

On the palate, initial notes of fresh brioche, almond and breadcrumbs give way to jasmine and elderflower, with white peach and watermelon coming through for the finish. Founded in Épernay in 1743, Jean-Rémy Moët made the house of Moët et Chandon the most famous in Europe.

The ability to innovate has assisted Moët et Chandon ability to adapt to the extremes and inconsistencies caused by climate change, both in the blend and growing techniques, and harvest timing. A mouthwatering bitterness of sloe and cranberry with notes of mint and aniseed refreshes the finish.
